10/30/23
Winter revealed himself overnight.
Yesterday, I threw on a t-shirt
and sweat through my shift at the coffee shop.
This morning, I opened my front door to head to the gym,
and I was hit with a frigid gust of wind –
like all of nature conferred as we slept
and decided it was time to make a change.
I walked to my car with my head tucked
and my arms wrapped around my torso
as the words, “Let the old things die,”
washed over me.
Let the old things die.
I always tell my clients that
the first step is noticing
because change is impossible
without awareness.
“Be honest in a way that scares you,
tell me what you see.
Fill me in on what’s there with you.”
I’ll name it –
the lush green grass of my front yard is turning brown,
and the trees in Shelby Park are increasingly bare.
My summer freckles are gone –
I’ll slowly take a breath
and settle in.
The cold air is blowing in something new for you.
A new day, a new season.
New moments with yourself.
Take a breath
and settle in.
Lightly,
Leah
